National Onion Rings Day

Happy National Onion Rings Day, June 22nd The origin of onion rings dates back to 1802, with a recipe called “Fried Onions with Parmesan Cheese” featured in John Mollard’s cookbook, The Art of Cookery Made Easy and Refined. This early recipe recommends slicing onions into 1/2 inch rings, coating them in a batter made of flour, cream, salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese, and then deep-frying them in boiling lard.

These onion rings from Sonic Drive-In are consistently ranked as the best among fast food offerings. They have a slightly sweet taste, which comes from an unusual ingredient. Do you know what it is? More of my food photographs on my website at http://SecondFocus.com

High Solar Activity

The two large Sunspot areas to the right, designated AR3712 and AR3713, have grown significantly in size to 3900 million square kilometers and 3300 million square kilometers. The dark lower Sunspot area AR3719, has become very active releasing an impulsive flare causing a radio blackout over the Pacific Ocean. 06-21-2024 Palm Springs California

Solar and Lunar Photography

I often get asked what I use for my Solar and Lunar photography. This is it… Fujifilm X-T3 camera body, 2x extender, 100-400mm lens. I use a Fujifilm cable release although sometimes I use the Fujifilm app on my iPhone. The Solar filter is from Thousand Oaks Optical. It is on a tall Induro tripod. But what really made things easier is this Benro geared head. The pool is optional. Thanks!

Dice at the Galen

At the opening reception for the Artists Council show “Fun+Games” at the Artists Center at the Galen, my photograph “Dice.” This piece is created by infusing dyes into a specially coated 40″x30″ aluminum panel, resulting in a photograph of almost magical luminescence. I’m deeply appreciative of the opportunity to exhibit in the museum-quality setting of the Galen in Palm Desert, California, where the show will be on display through June 30th, 2024. Thanks! 75 of Shauna On Red Leather

A red leather chaise lounge invites a break during the day. I selected 75 of one series from a day of shooting. I think the series is more intriguing than just one. On my website at https://www.secondfocus.com/index/G0000R1I.kt6G8J8

AR3712 More Active

The large Sunspot area, designated AR3712, continues to grow and now exhibits a mixed polarity magentic field. This could result in flares and solar winds causing radio disruption and auroral activity on Earth. 06-17-2024 Palm Springs California

100 of Aristodeme And Her Shadow

100 of Aristodeme And Her Shadow. A new gallery on my website. https://tinyurl.com/Aristodeme100 A day’s shooting of 564 photographs. There were a few themes created around a prop or wardrobe item. This is my selection of 100 of the 128 in this series. Here her shadow is a second model in the photographs and the movement and play is more than could be shown in just one. Please visit the gallery and let me know what you think. Of course on my website it is not censored Thank You! https://tinyurl.com/Aristodeme100

Sunspot AR3712

The large Sunspt area is designated AR3712. Covering an area five times the surface of the Earth, it had greatly increased in size in the last 24 hours. Flares and magnetic complexity could bring Auroral activity and radio blackouts. 06-15-2024 Palm Springs California

Fun+Games

Join us for the opening arts reception of “Fun+Games” this Thursday, June 13th, from 4-6 pm at the Artists Center at the Galen in Palm Desert, California. You will see my photograph featuring 300 of the most common item of fun and games from throughout history and around the world. Each item glows red, in a sea of black, achieved by infusing dyes directly into specially coated aluminum. The result is a magical luminescence, presented in a huge 30×40 inch format. There will be much “Fun+Games” to see. Thanks!
