Hunter’s Moon

Last night, the “Hunter’s Moon” signifying the time of year when Indigenous people would stock up on food for winter. The Moon lower on the horizon results in an orange color due to it’s light being scattered by particles in Earth’s atmosphere. 10-28-2023 Palm Springs California

Alien Jerky

A business empire built on beef jerky. The must stop attraction along the 15 freeway in Baker California. Alien Fresh Jerky with it’s UFO, spaceship designed store, a walk-up stop in the parking lot and the under construction UFO Hotel. I was last there in 2019 when Baker was on our locations for a photo excursion. When I go to and from Las Vegas I usually drive the roads through the Mojave National Preserve, not the freeway. From my photo archives.

Remember Where You Parked

How many of you have driven past the off ramp Zzyzx on the 15 freeway on the way to Las Vegas. If you take the time and go be sure you remember where to park.
Zzyzx Mineral Springs and Health Spa was originally Soda Springs. In 1860 established as an Army outpost to protect supplies from the Indians. Later operated as a somewhat scandalous health resort. Now the Cal State University Desert Studies Center and managed by the National Park Service. From my photo archives.

Older Generation Windmills

Older generations of windmills which get replaced as larger more efficient units become available. I photographed this in February 2010. For my photographer friends… This was shot on Kodachrome. I waited a few months and sent my last 6 rolls to Dwayne’s Photo in the last week they were still accepting them. Dwayne’s was the last Kodachrome film processor in the world. Palm Springs California. From my archives.

Distinct Look From A Lens

Makes me sorry I sold this lens some years back. More experienced photographers will recognize the type of lens I used to shoot this. And it was shot on film with a Canon 1v. One of my favorite all time cameras. From my archives.

At The Jump Door

Me at the jump door of the World War II C-47 “What’s Up Doc?”. Wearing a flight helmet, parachute and a tether. For a special project. I remember this one, I could have sat there all day.

USS Midway At Sunrise

Going out at sunrise by boat to the USS Midway to be towed to it’s berth in San Diego Harbor to become a museum. I was an invited photographer to be onboard. As I recall we had to be there by 0500hrs and it was a two hour drive for me. January 10 2004. From my photo archives.

Me At The Salton Sea

Photographing a model at the Salton Sea. She reached over and grabbed one of my film cameras and shot me back. From my photo archives.
