Got Here Reno Air Races 2021

Landing Saturday morning at Stead airport in a P-51 Mustang for the Reno Air Races. I am here with the team from the Palm Springs Air Museum.

Reno Air Races 2021

Saturday morning I fly up to the Reno Air Races. I am on the team for the Palm Springs Air Museum. We are racing three airplanes, two P-51 Mustangs and a P-63 Kingcobra. We are also flying up our T-6 and a C-47. An entire Air Force! I will be flying up in another P-51 Mustang but if one of these guys could take me with them that would be great. I am all about being time efficient. Less travel time is good. Thanks in advance Thunderbirds if you could stop by and pick me up. Photograph from the 2019 Reno Air Races.

My Best Side

Me doing more of what I do at the Palm Springs Air Museum. Photograph by my good Air Museum friend Rob.

National Aviation Day

It is National Aviation Day as well as being National Photography Day. Both work for me! In the Palm Springs Air Museum T-33.

National Photography Day

So today is National Photography Day. My friends are all posting photos of their first cameras. Mine actually was a Kodak Brownie. But my first serious camera was a Miranda Model F. This was around 1963. I primarily used it attached to my 8 inch reflector telescope for astronomy. As I best recall it cost me $35.00.

Why Hasselblad Cameras Are So Expensive

Yes I shoot a camera system that costs as much as a new car. And it is my favorite!

Diner Date

Don’t you just love it when your friend is already waiting at the restaurant for you.

At The Bar

I think this would be just wonderful in real life. My friend Shannon McGovern posts the most wonderful photographs.

The Capitol By Robert Longo

From the exhibit “Storm of Hope: Law & Disorder” by Robert Longo. Charcoal on mounted paper. At the Palm Springs Art Museum.

Great View

Doing something special flying in the Palm Springs Air Museum World War II C-47. The view is great this way. Thanks to my backup safety, Rob, for the some quick cellphone shots along the way.

A Conversation With Me

This was great fun! Click on it to watch. Other Photo Conversations presented by John Cornicello include some of the most well known photographers of our time.

Fitness Trainer

From my photo shoot with fitness trainer Mark Rosenberg. Yes the guy knows what he is doing. You can find him at https://www.instagram.com/markbrosenberg/

Abs And More

Great photo shoot with fitness trainer Mark Rosenberg here in Palm Springs. I worked him pretty hard; a couple of hours trail running in the desert and then to the gym. Outstanding!

Photographing Fitness

A very fun photo shoot this past week. Running out in the desert and lifting in a gym with a trainer here in Palm Springs. He looked great and found out that in my photo shoots, you work hard. And yes you can shoot out here in the hot weather.

168 gallons

That is me up on the left wing putting the first half of 168 gallons of fuel in the left main tank of the Palm Springs Air Museum C-47 this morning. We used that up on a training flight yesterday. Actually the flight and even fueling it is fun. Don’t tell anyone I said so!

Fueling a C-47

Sergi

A very memorable photo shoot with Sergi Constance. One of my all time favorite photographs I have taken.

Ski Inn II

Ski Inn II, an art installation at Bombay Beach on the Salton Sea. The real Ski Inn, bar and restaurant, in Bombay Beach is 223 feet below sea level making it the lowest bar in the western hemisphere. A real throwback to the 1950’s it has been featured by Anthony Bourdain and John Waters. Photographed at sunset.

Save Me Bombay Beach

A light display art installation at Bombay Beach at the Salton Sea.

Bonolith Bombay Beach

Sunset at Bombay Beach on the Salton Sea just yesterday. “Bonolith” a new art installation.

77 Years Later Fueling A C-47

June 6, 1944 D-Day, the Allied Invasion of Europe. The aircraft most remembered in the invasion was the C-47, dropping paratroopers and supplies. We did not fly today at the Palm Springs Air Museum but I did fuel the Museum C-47. It is painted in the D-Day invasion stripes of the time. Just interesting to think what I was doing these 77 years later.

Home Along The Freeway

Photographed along the I-10 Freeway in the Inland Empire of Southern California en route on a photo excursion last week. Huge box like tract homes stacked tightly under smog like condition skies. High power electrical transmission lines stretching across all of it and solar panels on one roof. This photograph is very thought provoking to me.

C-47 Flight Today

Today’s flight in the Palm Springs Air Museum World War II C-47. From and back to Palm Springs doing approaches at March Air Reserve Base. The March tower asked “How old is that airplane?” This one was built in 1944. That makes it 77 years old.
