When I was getting ready to do a photo shoot with Nova, I was excited to find that she had been featured in one of my favorite publications, “Victor” by Hasselblad. A beautiful publication that began as a very large format magazine and progressed to a book format. It is partially responsible for my having selected Hasselblad as my camera system.
So I was excited to have Nova sign her photograph in my copy of Hasselblad Victor Photography Book One during our photo shoot. And I am in great admiration of the original photograph and the series “Personal Visitation” by photographer Damon Loble. Applause!
By the way, it was the first time she had seen the publication and only had heard it was published.
“To Ian Thank you for a wonderful shoot!!”
Had I known, I would have photographed the other side of the sign. Sheltering in place.
Occasionally I get accused of objectifying women in my photographs. Far from it, I am only guilty of showing these women as powerful in their beauty and sexuality; with or without clothes. To quote famed photographer Helmut Newton… “My women are always victorious.”
Model Kajira in our photo shoot. Powerful in her own way. Studio shoot in Palm Springs.
A discount for the floor model? Or maybe I worked her too hard in our photo shoot? The very versatile and talented Shauna Toerner is one of a few series we shot that day at FD Photo Studio in Los Angeles. Gear notes… Hasselblad digital camera system and Broncolor lighting. Thanks!
Hasselblad, my favorite camera system for much of my work. One of the reasons is that I am a huge fan of the history of the cameras having been there for some of the most iconic photographs ever created from fashion to going into Outer Space and to the Moon. I do collect the Hasselblad publications which are unique and filled with their features of photographers from around the world.
So very excited to have had the opportunity to photograph Nova who was a model in one of the “Victor By Hasselblad” editions. A very creative model and visual artist. Perhaps unusual for her to be the one being asked for an autograph. Thank You Nova!
Don’t you love it when you get to the Diner and your date is already waiting for you. A somewhat edgy style photo shoot. Thanks!
She lounged by the pool and I shot photographs. The result of good planning. A sexy and edgy photo shoot destined for an editorial series. Model Noel VanBrocklin, photographer me and my Hasselblad digital camera. Thanks!
You have been seeing a lot of my aviation photography mixed in with my bodybuilding and fitness, as well as my edgy lifestyle photo shoots and photo excursions. It goes back to when I was 9 years old and taking pictures of my model trains. At 12 I was shooting through my telescopes at the skies. My bodybuilding and weight lifting started at age 12 too. Building model airplanes as a kid and then getting in the airplanes. My interests along the way have always been accompanied by my photography or driven by it. Anyway some were asking, so I thought I might say something here about it all. Thanks!
Hypnotic, the only way to describe the look of Amber Flowers when she is looking at you. Photo shoot notes… Styling, makeup and hair styling by Amber. Hasselblad digital camera system. Lighting by Broncolor. Only the best!
What do 164 magazine editors, art directors, public relations companies, sportswear companies, supplement companies, fitness websites and even CBS Television have in common? They are all signed up and have used my archive to search for photographs that fit their needs and usage.
Going into 2017 that archive will be greatly expanded with much more from edgy fashion to lifestyle to bodybuilding, fitness, yoga and Palm Springs scenes and more. Just this week I have been asked for photos ranging from a Presidential motorcade to a beautiful woman in a swimming pool. And yes I had what they wanted available! So if you are going to be looking for photographs for your needs, send me a note and you will have access too. Thank You! Send me an e-mail to Ian@SecondFocus.com
I love the people I photograph! I love the creation, the wardrobe or lack of wardrobe, the makeup, the process, the cameras, the lighting equipment, even the light stands, all of it. And I am a true lover of photography, not just my photographs but the world of photographs.
Yes we are looking at you! It would be a tragedy not to! Amber Flowers in our photo shoot. Superbly wardrobe styled and makeup and hair by Amber. Hasselblad digital camera system and lighting by Broncolor. I am sure happy I shot some photos to remember all this!
I always suggest to models that they should bring along the things they bought but have stuck in a closet or in a drawer because they never found the opportunity to wear those things. It can be so fun! in our photo shoot, Kajira had a few of those kinds of things.
I attended a really fun event on Saturday night, “Open Desert – Music and Photographic Arts Showcase“. At the Annenberg Theater at the Palm Springs Art Museum, photographs from the nearby desert areas such as Joshua Tree and the Salton Sea displayed big screen behind the live music from “Tribesmen“, “Caxton“, “Mike Pygmie Ensemble” and “Drum Hall“. I was asked why I did not submit photographs for the show. Well for one thing, they were all turned black and white. I like black and white for some photographs but I think the colors and the light in the desert should be seen as you might imagine it. And another reason, well my photographs do not tend to be the usual landscape type photographs.
“The environment of Salton Sea can be very intense. Harsh Sunlight, desolate spaces, an eeriness to the Sea itself. In places a post apocalyptic look that would be movie perfect. But I find it uniquely compelling and beautiful. A favorite location for my photo shoots. Model Bailey Daniels.” – from one of my prior Blog Posts.
