The question came up the other day; “What is fine art photography?”. I am not sure but here is my effort at it. The model is Aristodeme. A Hasselblad digital camera system and Broncolor lighting. The art print from the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena California. I am liking my interpretation of it better than by itself.

I have always been a fan of Hasselblad because of it’s place in history with the exploration of outer space. This is an ad from July/August 2005 in Picture Magazine, but it appeared in many magazines. I remember very well the introduction of the H1D when Hasselblad held a day long special event at the Loews Hotel in Santa Monica. It was led by none other than the then President of Hasselblad.
I was there, and as I usually would do, spent a couple of days staying at the Loew’s for other business. Holding that camera and looking through that viewfinder was a total revelation. It shamed other cameras with its huge bright view. The camera so very ergonomic and solid. Everyone was just amazed with it and it’s features and future.
Indeed that held with me when finally I bought my own H4D system some years later. Hasselblad always had some great huge events. Other companies have done so along the way too. I hope to see more. I think it is good marketing although sometimes immediate results are not seen.
When I was getting ready to do a photo shoot with Nova, I was excited to find that she had been featured in one of my favorite publications, “Victor” by Hasselblad. A beautiful publication that began as a very large format magazine and progressed to a book format. It is partially responsible for my having selected Hasselblad as my camera system.
So I was excited to have Nova sign her photograph in my copy of Hasselblad Victor Photography Book One during our photo shoot. And I am in great admiration of the original photograph and the series “Personal Visitation” by photographer Damon Loble. Applause!
By the way, it was the first time she had seen the publication and only had heard it was published.
This photograph with my Hasselblad digital camera and Broncolor lighting. Thanks!

Occasionally I get accused of objectifying women in my photographs. Far from it, I am only guilty of showing these women as powerful in their beauty and sexuality; with or without clothes. To quote famed photographer Helmut Newton… “My women are always victorious.”
Model Kajira in our photo shoot. Powerful in her own way. Studio shoot in Palm Springs.
I do find some women very bold when they are naked. It is very powerful. Shauna Toerner in our photo shoot. At FD Photo Studio in Los Angeles. Hasselblad digital camera system and Broncolor lighting.

Introducing L.A.’s Newest Interactive Pop-Up Museum, Cheat Day Land Pop-up museums have become the new norm in L.A.
From the Museum of Ice Cream to Happy Place, not a month goes by where there isn’t a new one to check out. October is no exception.
This month, the immersive new exhibit Cheat Day Land will open its doors in the L.A. Arts District. For those of you who were lucky enough to visit MOIC, you’ll find the space deliciously familiar.
Unlike its predecessor, Cheat Day Land is dedicated to, you guessed it, cheat days. With rooms dedicated to everything from donuts and chocolate to burritos and cereal, there are no shortage of photo ops for your social media or things for the kids to climb on or jump in.
And Thank You to the people who made the photo shoot work so well. The incredible featured Estee Lauder MakeUp Artist Blanche LeBeau. And my assistant for the day who also shot much of the video, Shauna Toerner.
