When back in Los Angeles for photo projects, if I needed to be in the Hollywood area, I would sometimes stay across the street at the Redbury Hotel.

Going through my photo archives, a rare personal photo. My weightlifting training partners for 12 years. I as 20 years older so my nickname was “the old man”. We trained in a gym that was old school, industrial space, no air conditioning so in the summer it would be 90+ degrees in there.
We had quite a reputation and trainers would come from all around to work out with us. Our goal was always the same… to see how quickly we could make them vomit trying to keep up with us. Also we lifted much heavier than people remotely expected. Those were among my best times and best friends.
From my archives. Then Governor Gray Davis at a campaign event defending his recall against Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2003. This was at the port offices in San Pedro. I had been shooting this race and by then knew that the guy had no chance against the star power of Arnold. Arnold drew thousands of enthusiastic people but like at this one, Davis had maybe 75 with a union support.
Side note… I really need to use a bathroom so I went into the port office and begged. The receptionist said yes but had me leave my camera bag and gear at her desk. When I came out the police were waiting for me wanting to know where I left my bag. On surveillance cameras they saw me go in with a bag but not come out with a bag.

From my archives. Behind the scenes in one of my typical advertising and feature shoots in the bodybuilding and fitness world. Two models, makeup artist stylist, two assistants and the video producer. Wardrobe that day was beachwear, fitness and formal. We shot at three locations, a beach in Marina Del Rey, Gold’s Gym Venice and the helicopter pad on the roof of a hotel overlooking the ocean. And a second photographer shooting behind the scenes.
