Airliners Like Meteors

Watch for 7 airliners (propably) streaking through the sky like meteors. Time-lapse yesterday 10-30-2023 over Palm Springs California.

Runway Salton Sea

The 5,000 ft runway and a hangar at the airport near Salton City at the Salton Sea (KSAS). The airport is owned by Burrtec Waste Industries which operates a nearby landfill. The elevation is -84 ft. From my photo archives.

De Havilland Beaver

A De Havilland DHC-2 Beaver departing the airport in Palm Springs. This one is owned by a buddy of mine. From my photo archives.

Hunter’s Moon

Last night, the “Hunter’s Moon” signifying the time of year when Indigenous people would stock up on food for winter. The Moon lower on the horizon results in an orange color due to it’s light being scattered by particles in Earth’s atmosphere. 10-28-2023 Palm Springs California

Alien Jerky

A business empire built on beef jerky. The must stop attraction along the 15 freeway in Baker California. Alien Fresh Jerky with it’s UFO, spaceship designed store, a walk-up stop in the parking lot and the under construction UFO Hotel. I was last there in 2019 when Baker was on our locations for a photo excursion. When I go to and from Las Vegas I usually drive the roads through the Mojave National Preserve, not the freeway. From my photo archives.

C-47 Overhead

The World War II C-47 “What’s Up Doc?” over Palm Springs today doing some takeoffs and landings. 10-27-2023

Aluminaire House

The continued assembly of the Aluminaire House at the Palm Springs Art Museum. The Aluminaire House created in 1931 by architects A. Lawrence Kocher and Albert Frey. Designed as a case study, all metal, three stories high. 10-27-2023

Remember Where You Parked

How many of you have driven past the off ramp Zzyzx on the 15 freeway on the way to Las Vegas. If you take the time and go be sure you remember where to park.
Zzyzx Mineral Springs and Health Spa was originally Soda Springs. In 1860 established as an Army outpost to protect supplies from the Indians. Later operated as a somewhat scandalous health resort. Now the Cal State University Desert Studies Center and managed by the National Park Service. From my photo archives.

Older Generation Windmills

Older generations of windmills which get replaced as larger more efficient units become available. I photographed this in February 2010. For my photographer friends… This was shot on Kodachrome. I waited a few months and sent my last 6 rolls to Dwayne’s Photo in the last week they were still accepting them. Dwayne’s was the last Kodachrome film processor in the world. Palm Springs California. From my archives.

Distinct Look From A Lens

Makes me sorry I sold this lens some years back. More experienced photographers will recognize the type of lens I used to shoot this. And it was shot on film with a Canon 1v. One of my favorite all time cameras. From my archives.

At The Jump Door

Me at the jump door of the World War II C-47 “What’s Up Doc?”. Wearing a flight helmet, parachute and a tether. For a special project. I remember this one, I could have sat there all day.

USS Midway At Sunrise

Going out at sunrise by boat to the USS Midway to be towed to it’s berth in San Diego Harbor to become a museum. I was an invited photographer to be onboard. As I recall we had to be there by 0500hrs and it was a two hour drive for me. January 10 2004. From my photo archives.

Me At The Salton Sea

Photographing a model at the Salton Sea. She reached over and grabbed one of my film cameras and shot me back. From my photo archives.

Capitol Records On Film

From my archives… The Capitol Records building in Hollywood. I really like this photograph because it has that shot on film look. The reason it has that look is because I shot it on film.
When back in Los Angeles for photo projects, if I needed to be in the Hollywood area, I would sometimes stay across the street at the Redbury Hotel.

LAPD Air Support

From my photo archives… A 2000 Eurocopter AS-350B-2 Ecureuil, N221LA flown by the Los Angeles Police Department in 2004. The N number has since been reassigned to another LAPD helicopter, a 2014 Airbus H125.

InOMN

A world-wide annual event, International Observe The Moon Night takes place when the Moon is in the first quarter phase. Photographed last night, 10-21-2023, Palm Springs California.

Going through my photo archives, a rare personal photo. My weightlifting training partners for 12 years. I as 20 years older so my nickname was “the old man”. We trained in a gym that was old school, industrial space, no air conditioning so in the summer it would be 90+ degrees in there.

We had quite a reputation and trainers would come from all around to work out with us. Our goal was always the same… to see how quickly we could make them vomit trying to keep up with us. Also we lifted much heavier than people remotely expected. Those were among my best times and best friends.

1st Place

I think he was telling the other driver that he is in 1st place. Vintage Auto Racing Association racing at California Speedway. From my photo archives.

As We Get Older

As we get older we have to work around some of our physical limitations. From my photo archives.

C-17’s Arriving In Israel

10-17-2023. A USAF C-17 Globemaster arriving in Israel now. This last Sunday morning I saw two arriving in the (PST). All from Ramstein Air Base Germany.

Governor Recall 2003

From my archives. Then Governor Gray Davis at a campaign event defending his recall against Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2003. This was at the port offices in San Pedro. I had been shooting this race and by then knew that the guy had no chance against the star power of Arnold. Arnold drew thousands of enthusiastic people but like at this one, Davis had maybe 75 with a union support.

Side note… I really need to use a bathroom so I went into the port office and begged. The receptionist said yes but had me leave my camera bag and gear at her desk. When I came out the police were waiting for me wanting to know where I left my bag. On surveillance cameras they saw me go in with a bag but not come out with a bag.

Typical

From my archives. Behind the scenes in one of my typical advertising and feature shoots in the bodybuilding and fitness world. Two models, makeup artist stylist, two assistants and the video producer. Wardrobe that day was beachwear, fitness and formal. We shot at three locations, a beach in Marina Del Rey, Gold’s Gym Venice and the helicopter pad on the roof of a hotel overlooking the ocean. And a second photographer shooting behind the scenes.

Big Names At The Grammys

From my archives. The Grammys 2006. I was a little early but at least I got to photograph some major stars before it got crowded.
