I think he was telling the other driver that he is in 1st place. Vintage Auto Racing Association racing at California Speedway. From my photo archives.
Video this morning 10-14-2023, the Annular Solar Eclipse. The large Sunspot area is designated AR3465. It is approximately 608 million square kilometers in size. By comparison the Earth is approximately 517 million square kilometers. Other places geographically had more coverage of the Sun by the Moon. But here in Palm Springs I found just as fascinating.
More from my archives, behind the scenes. This was an advertising shoot. The ad department sent me sketches of what they wanted and this was it exactly. Now I had a routine schedule of ads to shoot for them giving me time to produce them. But here they called me to let me know that they had made a mistake and needed it by the end of the week.
In four days we got it done. I had some good team members and a good reach for bodybuilding models. We arranged costumes, actual 19th century six guns, costumes and I searched and found a location. The ad ran in all of the bodybuilding and fitness magazines for months. And was seen online in front of millions of people.
More from my archives. My buddy Cara Basso. I love this woman. Photographed her many times editorial and advertising. Cara always showed up late but always ready. I never worried about it because she would always be there for me. As one person close to me said… when Cara walked in, all the air got sucked out of the room, all eyes were on her.
For the past months I have been working on my photo archives. Organizing, uploading to my searchable archive accessed through my website, uploading to my agencies for editorial and stock.
As I go through these photographs I thought I might share some at random, regardless of a theme or type. I have shot many genres. So here, a beautiful face. From March 2004 at a hotel in Irvine California. The camera was a Canon 1V, an all time favorite of mine, Kodak film and only natural light.
The large Sunspot group near the center of the Sun is designated AR3452. It is actually made up of 36 individual Sunspots. It covers an area of approximately 730 million square kilometers. The surface of the Earth is approximately 517 million square kilometers. Palm Springs 10-04-2023
Marisa Mell as Eva in the movie Danger Diabolik being projected on a wall at an event for Palm Springs Modernism Week 2014. The erotic look of her dress and the scene is my idea of Mid-Century Modern.
Modernism Week, an international event annually in Palm Springs. Alongside is the Fine Arts Fair which can be, in my eyes, a little more fun than just architecture and furniture. Here are some examples from 2015.
Naughty Booty by Steve Maloney.
Photograph of a work at the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair during Modernism Week. A more edgy work.
Photograph of a work at the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair during Modernism Week. A more edgy work of similiar scenes painted and photographed in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
A photograph of The World At Your Feet by artist Jay Kelly. At the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair for Modernism Week.
At the Art Festival for Modernism Week Palm Springs in 2015. As I look through the photos from that year, I can say it was a lot of fun. Let’s see what it looks like coming up.
The Moon at 99.9% of full. Distance from the Earth approximately 224,625,739 miles. Named the Harvest Moon as it refers to the full Moon closest to the Autumnal Equinox. 09-28-2023 Palm Springs California
The Mission Inn starting Christmas decorating in September. A Nutcracker on a balconey on the backside of the hotel. The Mission Inn is a very historic hotel in downtown Riverside California and designated as a National Historic Landmark.
Easy to read at freeway speeds. Clear what it is about and where it is. There is an advertising lesson there. Eastbound along the Interstate 10 freeway between Cabazon and Palm Springs California.
A Dragonfly flying over a swimming pool. This might be the hardest thing to photograph I have ever attempted lol. Less than 20ft away with a 400mm lens. My second time trying, the first was a blowout. This time I figured out a way to do it, but this was still the only good one out of 252 frames. This is our resident pool Dragonfly so I will be going for some better shots soon.
I can’t believe I had not eaten here until yesterday. Opened in 1977, the JT Country Kitchen is the longest continually running restaurant in Joshua Tree. Featured on an episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations.
“Transmission” a 28ft tall sculpture of concrete, steel and mosaiced with dichroic glass mirror that changes color depending on the viewing angle. Created by owner Morgan Brown and artist Daniel Popper. Photographed yesterday in Joshua Tree.
