Easter Bonnet

This would be more of my idea of an Easter Bonnet. It’s all about the Bonnet of course. Model Severine makes for my idea of wearing the perfect Easter wardrobe too. Ok maybe my ideas about most wardrobe might be different than most. I like it!

Makeup and Styling with the incredible Blanche LeBeau. Lighting by Broncolor and a Hasselblad digital camera system. Maybe next year we need Bunny Rabbits too.

Bombay Beach Boating Fashion

Just last week the Bombay Beach Biennale 2018 was a great success with art installations and ballet and opera and fun. Sadly I missed it with flying duties at the Palm Springs Air Museum. However I have been doing my own art installations at Bombay Beach and around the Salton Sea for a number of years.

Bombay Beach boating fashion with model Xtine. Eco-friendly, everything we packed in we packed out. And we walked away with our Art created with a camera. The Art created  by Xtine, myself, a Hasselblad digital camera system and Broncolor lighting.

Many installations of the Bombay Beach Biennale 2018, such as the the Opera House, The Hermitage Museum, Drive-In Theater, The Institute, Angler Grove, and Nine, have become permanent gifts to the town. I will certainly be going back out to take a look. Go visit and also remember that the Salton Sea is one of the most environmentally important places in the country and must be protected. Thank You!

Not Typical BTS

Not your typical behind the scenes setup, except maybe for me. Shooting the board of directors for the Palm Springs Air Museum in front of two aircraft, showing both fully and the sign on the hangar. Two rows of 19 people sitting and standing. And very simply it came out perfect. Will show the final photograph when it is released. Could not be happier with the results!

Lighting was the Broncolor 1200L Move, Broncolor Para 133 and a Broncolor Octabox for  some fill. Had to balance it all out with the Sun in and out of some overcast, low behind me to my right. Camera was a Hasselblad H4D-40 with the Hasselblad HC 50mm lens.

Everything was all set up and ready to go before anyone got there. I shot 12 frames in succession in no more than two minutes.

Gasp In Awe

There are those who know how to captivate the camera. You look through the viewfinder and as they move hit the pose, you slightly gasp in awe and press the shutter button. Such is Maria Bertrand.

Makeup and Hair Styling by the incredibly talented Blanche LeBeau. Hasselblad digital camera system and Broncolor lighting. Always the best! Thanks!

It Is Intriguing

What is there at Bombay Beach at the Salton Sea? It is intriguing…

Xtine At Bombay Beach

Model Xtine. Hasselblad digital camera system. Broncolor lighting.

Nova And Hasselblad

Hasselblad, my favorite camera system for much of my work. One of the reasons is that I am a huge fan of the history of the cameras having been there for some of the most iconic photographs ever created from fashion to going into Outer Space and to the Moon. I do collect the Hasselblad publications which are unique and filled with their features of photographers from around the world.

So very excited to have had the opportunity to photograph Nova who was a model in one of the “Victor By Hasselblad” editions. A very creative model and visual artist. Perhaps unusual for her to be the one being asked for an autograph. Thank You Nova!

Xtine The Photo From the BTS Video

My Bombay Beach photo shoot at the Salton Sea with model Xtine. Yesterday I shared a behind the scenes video of her posing here at this spot. This is one of the photos from that “take”.

The Sun was intense and almost directly behind her. My lighting was a Broncolor white beauty dish held by my assistant pointed 45 degrees to her from her right. It was powered by the Broncolor 1200L Move pack. I like the beauty dish out there to withstand the winds and for the power.

The camera is my Hasselblad H4D-40 with the Hasselblad HC 100mm f/2.2 lens. Without question my favorite Hasselblad lens.

Here is the link to the behind the scenes posing video here on my Blog… https://wp.me/pH8pO-2Hn

Windy Modeling

Some more posing behind the scenes with model Xtine at Bombay Beach at the Salton Sea. The BTS video here was not lit. Sun directly behind her. Lighting the photo shoot was with a Broncolor white beauty dish held by my assistant with a Broncolor 1200L Move pack. I was using a Hasselblad digital camera system.

Note the very windy conditions. I have seen photographers bring soft boxes and umbrellas out here for light modifiers and try to put them on light stands. Not a good plan. The wind just turns that stuff into kites.

Another point is having a model who can pose without being micro-managed. The model will not be able to hear you over the wind noise. So your discussion of posing will all be between “takes”.

Xtine At Salton Sea

Model Xtine adding some color to the apocalyptic environment of the Salton Sea. Our photo shoot at Bombay Beach.

For my photographer friends; my Hasselblad digital camera system and Broncolor lighting. So here was the problem… I really wanted to use this framing of the posts with the Salton Sea directly behind her. But I also had really intense Sun directly behind her.

So a white Broncolor beauty dish to my left at about a 45 degree angle to her just outside the frame held by my assistant. Powered by a Broncolor 1200L Move pack. It was also very windy so any big light modifiers would have been a problem.

The camera was my Hasselblad H4D-40 with the Hasselblad HC 100mm f/2.2 lens.

A First Time For Xtine

Bombay Beach at the Salton Sea with model Xtine. Her first time around the Salton Sea, my assistant’s first time around the Salton Sea. Photographed with a Hasselblad digital camera system and Broncolor lighting. Only the best!

Xtine At Bombay Beach

Actually a partially overcast day so we had sun and then no sun. To my left 45 degrees to the model was my assistant holding a Broncolor white Beauty Dish, only one light powered by a Broncolor 1200L Move pack. He carried that in it’s shoulder case. Winds at Bombay Beach can be very significant, so that was a factor in my light modifier decision and to not try using a stand. By the way, Xtine the model here, is 6ft-1 in her bare feet.

For The Opera With Xtine

A look at posing with model Xtine at Bombay Beach at the Salton Sea during our photo shoot just the other day. You might ask “Why is that boat there?”. Well, for the opera, of course!

Video shot on a Fujifilm X-T1 camera. The actual photographs from the shoot, previews soon. The photography with a Hasselblad digital camera system and Broncolor lighting. Thanks!
