This is why Apple probably won’t be calling me for their next ad campaign. I got the logo upside down. For more of my mistakes visit my website at http://SecondFocus.com Thanks!
From my archives. Behind the scenes in one of my typical advertising and feature shoots in the bodybuilding and fitness world. Two models, makeup artist stylist, two assistants and the video producer. Wardrobe that day was beachwear, fitness and formal. We shot at three locations, a beach in Marina Del Rey, Gold’s Gym Venice and the helicopter pad on the roof of a hotel overlooking the ocean. And a second photographer shooting behind the scenes.
More from my archives, behind the scenes. This was an advertising shoot. The ad department sent me sketches of what they wanted and this was it exactly. Now I had a routine schedule of ads to shoot for them giving me time to produce them. But here they called me to let me know that they had made a mistake and needed it by the end of the week.
In four days we got it done. I had some good team members and a good reach for bodybuilding models. We arranged costumes, actual 19th century six guns, costumes and I searched and found a location. The ad ran in all of the bodybuilding and fitness magazines for months. And was seen online in front of millions of people.
Easy to read at freeway speeds. Clear what it is about and where it is. There is an advertising lesson there. Eastbound along the Interstate 10 freeway between Cabazon and Palm Springs California.
A behind the scenes photo shot by one of my assistants during an advertising, editorial and video feature shoot I did for Bodybuilding.com. Maria Rogers.
Just ran across this. My photographs have wrapped buses in Las Vegas, been on billboards, the sides of entire buildings, Times Square, and been in as many as 300 publications monthly around the world. Kind of lucky I guess and Thankful.
I have always loved this photo. My buddy Ali Harris. We were up above Pioneertown in Yucca Valley CA doing a sportswear shoot. Makeup Artist Natalie Lyle was there too. We were all good friends and having a lot of fun. It was just plain getting cold and I gave Ali this blanket to keep warm in between setups. Just happened to shoot this photograph. The sportswear was great but I thought this was just beautiful. Thanks!
Great fun today talking about my photography on “Photo Conversations” with John Cornicello. You can watch the replay with some of my photos and “tear sheets”. Thanks!
Truly incredible to be included in an ongoing series that has featured photo industry luminaries such as John Paul Caponigro, Seth Resnick, Kevin Raber, Jack Reznicki, Lee Varis, Michael Newler, Benjamin Von Wong, Jeff Schewe, Jeff Dunas, Mac Holbert, Greg Gorman and more.
Very pleased to again be in the APA Sourcebook 2020. Published annually by the American Photographic Artists, the print edition is distributed to advertising agencies, editorial publications, design firms and select companies around the USA. Model Randalene Sargent.
A photograph that has almost become iconic and used endlessly for the Palm Springs Air Museum. I do not think it would have happened had I not shot it with my Hasselblad.
Quality counts more and more. We went through a decade or longer being bombarded with bad photos and video in ads, features and social media. A few of the photographs I shoot for the Palm Springs Air Museum. Camera was my Fujifilm X-H1 with the Fujifilm XF 8-16mm f/2.8 lens. These are also used for print advertising. Thanks!
I do not know how many times I photographed Randalene Sergent. I first photographed her for a feature in Iron Man Magazine for Bodybuilding.com. I remember being speechless, she was so breathtakingly beautiful as I looked through the camera. We became steadfast friends and I went on to photograph her for more magazine features, advertising, company promotions and fashion editorials. Makeup and hair styling in this photo shoot by another of my steadfast best buddies, Natalie Lyle.
Are you one of the ad agencies, editorial publications, design firms, and select companies around the US that received the 2019 APA Sourcebook? Yes I am in it. Thanks!

Introducing L.A.’s Newest Interactive Pop-Up Museum, Cheat Day Land Pop-up museums have become the new norm in L.A.
From the Museum of Ice Cream to Happy Place, not a month goes by where there isn’t a new one to check out. October is no exception.
This month, the immersive new exhibit Cheat Day Land will open its doors in the L.A. Arts District. For those of you who were lucky enough to visit MOIC, you’ll find the space deliciously familiar.
Unlike its predecessor, Cheat Day Land is dedicated to, you guessed it, cheat days. With rooms dedicated to everything from donuts and chocolate to burritos and cereal, there are no shortage of photo ops for your social media or things for the kids to climb on or jump in.
And Thank You to the people who made the photo shoot work so well. The incredible featured Estee Lauder MakeUp Artist Blanche LeBeau. And my assistant for the day who also shot much of the video, Shauna Toerner.
While doing a publicity and workout photo shoot with my good friend Kerstin Schulze, she had a message to share. She was bullied as a kid too.
Now she lives her life to carry a message and be a role model to so very many as an actress, a fitness personality and a Mom. Take a minute for her very spontaneous and heartfelt moment…
I think Shauna Toerner does naked and restless very well indeed. Her dilemma helped with Makeup and Hair Styling by Natalie Lyle. An extra series on Fujifilm Instax instant film from our photo shoot at FD Photo Studio in downtown Los Angeles. Thanks!
Most of you know me from my extensively published work in Bodybuilding and Fitness. I have photographed and done video with some of the most famous as well the up and comers. To say the least my favorites include the incredible Ava Cowan; featured in magazines, ads and on stage at the Olympia and Arnold.
I would love to work with more of you, it is always great fun too. So whether it is for your own portfolio, your fitness career, your company ads, or magazine features; send me a note here or an e-mail to Ian@SecondFocus.com. And Thanks!

Just six weeks ago, we had over 17,000 listeners and since then over 21,000 downloads of the podcast. I wonder what I said that was so good? Chatting with Sherri at https://bit.ly/2sDqCLJ Thanks!

The Arnold Sports Festival 2018 in Columbus OH is underway and the huge Expo is about to open tomorrow Friday. Hundreds of thousands of people will fill the convention center among 1000 booths from fitness related companies. Although I am not there, my photographs fill some of those booths and displays.
My all time favorite and longest running… Renee kissing the egg for Egg Whites International. They just set up their booth and if they had tried to shoot a photograph of it tomorrow you never would have seen because of all of the people around it. If you just count all of the people who have seen this display at Arnold Sports Festivals in Columbus Ohio, it would be millions.
The Arnold Sports Festival, most known for it roots as a premier bodybuilding competition is actually 20,000 athletes participating in 75 sports and events from 80 nations around the world. “We are very proud to provide the opportunity for athletes, a majority of them youth, to compete at the largest multi-sport festival in the world.”
