So very cool, I was on the team racing these two historic aircraft at the 55th Annual National Championship Air Races in Reno. With the Palm Springs Air Museum.
So here we were at the 55th Annual National Championship Air Races Reno. The most prestigious race of the fastest motorsport in the world. Racing two aircraft with the Palm Springs Air Museum. And yes we find out that one of our team, Ryan Goss, is celebrating their birthday lol.
Saturday morning, Sept 8th I was en route to the 55th Annual National Championship Air Races in Reno! Flying in a P-51 Mustang along with the Palm Springs Air Museum P-51 Mustang “Bunny” and this P-63 Kingcobra “Pretty Polly”.
Shooting air to air photos and video on A Fujifilm X-H1 camera secured to me with a very solid camera strap from Vulture Equipment. Watch for it! Thanks!
While doing a publicity and workout photo shoot with my good friend Kerstin Schulze, she had a message to share. She was bullied as a kid too.
Now she lives her life to carry a message and be a role model to so very many as an actress, a fitness personality and a Mom. Take a minute for her very spontaneous and heartfelt moment…

From my ad photo and video shoot for Cheat Day Land with kids and families all day. Here with the immensely popular and beautiful Russian actress, model and television host Anna Oris and her daughter Ameliya. Looking good riding a donut!
A Big Thank You to my photo shoot team; Estee Lauder featured Makeup Artist Blanche LeBeau, and my assistant for the day, the very versatile and talented Shauna Toerner.
Some more photos working with the Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | S lens. On my Canon 1DMkIV. The flying photos were shot at 600mm and only 1/200th shutter speed. It was mounted on an Induro monopod and a Foba ball head.
The slower shutter speed is to capture the prop blur. It is indeed a beast of lens and mounted to a I series Canon body makes for a big heavy package. Panning with this at 600mm will take some more practice. Also I will try it handheld. Right now I am thinking this has some real possibilities. Love the color fidelity and reach of this lens. At 600mm on that body it is the equivalent of 780mm.
The aircraft at the Palm Springs Air Museum; a Red Tail P-51 Mustang “Bunny” dedicated to the famed Tuskegee Airmen of World War II. And the C-47 “What’s Up Doc?”.
I have been trying out the the Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | S lens. On my Canon 1DMkIV. And a no fail serious camera strap from Vulture Equipment Works.
Just worked with it for the 2nd time. Yes it is sharp and the color fidelity is beautiful! You might look at the lettering on the prop and say it is blurry. Actually that is exactly how it is on the prop. This was at 150mm. The aircraft is at the Palm Springs Air Museum; a Red Tail P-51 Mustang “Bunny” dedicated to the famed Tuskegee Airmen of World War II.
Hey everyone! This is for me… Off to the Reno Air Races very soon with the Palm Springs Air Museum. We are racing our “Red Tail” P-51 Mustang “Bunny” dedicated to the famed and heroic Tuskegee Airmen of World War II. And… the very rare P-63 Kingcobra “Pretty Polly”, one of only four flying in the entire world!
This is the big one, the Indy 500 of air racing, the fastest motorsport in the world. And this is the last few days of my crowdfunding for it. Yes I am asking you for money. This has been really successful so far and I am very grateful. To be honest, it makes me look good too! But I am asking your help to make this finish with a big bang.
Thanks to so many of you who have jumped in so far. If you add on in, that would be wonderful too. For those of you who have been just watching, come on in! Join with me! There are great perks from team T-Shirts to actually flying!
We have group and business sponsorships too. Don’t see something that exactly fits what you might like for your company; just send me a note and we can chat. Ian@PalmSpringsAirMuseum.org
Anyway this is the last few days, so please jump on in. We are preserving a great part of history and it is fun! Or if anything else, do it for me! Thanks! Here is the link, check it out… https://igg.me/at/RedTailsReno2018
August 19th is National Aviation Day in celebration of the development of aviation. We celebrated with a “Flight OF Two” on August 19th returning from the Wings Over Camarillo Air Show. Aircraft that were pivotal in the history of aviation. Flying in our own World War II C-47 “What’s Up Doc?” and across from us, the CAF Inland Empire C-53 “D-Day Doll”. Take a minute to watch and listen and enjoy some the experience of flying in these amazing 75 year old Warbirds.
The holiday was established in 1939 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt with the Presidential Proclamation designating the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday to be National Aviation Day. Orville Wright, born in 1871, was still alive when the proclamation was first issued.
I think Shauna Toerner does naked and restless very well indeed. Her dilemma helped with Makeup and Hair Styling by Natalie Lyle. An extra series on Fujifilm Instax instant film from our photo shoot at FD Photo Studio in downtown Los Angeles. Thanks!
Most of you know me from my extensively published work in Bodybuilding and Fitness. I have photographed and done video with some of the most famous as well the up and comers. To say the least my favorites include the incredible Ava Cowan; featured in magazines, ads and on stage at the Olympia and Arnold.
I would love to work with more of you, it is always great fun too. So whether it is for your own portfolio, your fitness career, your company ads, or magazine features; send me a note here or an e-mail to Ian@SecondFocus.com. And Thanks!
Shauna Toerner from our photo shoot. This is one of the instant film photos I shot for fun and I really love the look of instant film. This was Fujifilm Instax but I also shoot Polaroid cameras with Fujifilm and film from the Impossible Project which is now Polaroid Originals.
By the way Shauna is an incredible model and looks gorgeous naked. I get to say that because I have always loved the art of women nude or semi-nude in photography. For decades if you walked me into a museum and there was the work of Helmut Newton or some other famous photographer shooting in the genre of “Porno Chic” that is where you found me. The genre now also appears as “Naked Chic” and can be seen in high end lifestyle and fashion magazines across the more extensive shelves of a bigger city Barnes & Noble and major city magazine stands. Indeed a mainstay in the rest of the world, just too much for our timid U.S. archaic values.
Personally I like the look and fun of Porno Chic and Naked Chic and that is why I shoot it. I also like poking fun at society and it’s ill conceived prudishness. My only problem is mixing it in with my own mainstream work in such diverse areas as aviation, fitness, and bodybuilding. My more fashion work is OK with it. So I had gone back to hiding it away. But no fun in that and I have been around long enough to do what I want. So watch for more here on my Blog. Can’t put this on Facebook and much of social media, so you would do me a great service by subscribing to my Blog here and passing me along to your friends. Re-posting is good too. Thanks for that.
Photo shoot notes… Makeup and Hair Styling by the wonderful Natalie Lyle. I used a Fujifilm Instax Mini camera and shot about fifty. And they are really great! The actual shoot was with a Hasselblad digital camera system. Lighting by Broncolor. At FD Photo Studio in downtown Los Angeles. Thanks again!
This graph is one direct from Facebook showing the growth I have created for one client. The red line indicates where I took over the job. Before that it was relatively flat for at least a year or more with very lackluster postings.
As a photographer, I have for a long time now continued to build my own business with social media. Perhaps I have something like 15 years doing it. As well as having been involved in building content and social media for my photo clients. So it was only a matter of course that I have applied my abilities to create content of photos, videos and writing to build and manage social media for clients as a regular part of my business.
I am not some part time guy doing this on the side. Social Media, photography and video is what I do. If you might be interested in chatting about what I might do for you, please send me an e-mail to Ian@SecondFocus.com. Happy to have the opportunity to just chat with you. Thanks!
Much of what Kerstin has to say is mirrored by me. “Surround yourself with people of the same powerful energy”. She is one extraordinary individual.
A tremendous photo and video shoot. Thank You Kerstin Schulze. Big Thank You’s to the wonderful Estee Lauder featured Makeup Artist Blanche LeBeau; my so very talented assistant for the day Shauna Toerner, amazing hair styling by Phata Chavis.
Photo shoot notes… Photographs with a Hasselblad digital camera system. Lighting by Broncolor. Videos shot on Fujifilm X-H1 and X-T1 cameras. Shot at FD Photo Studio in downtown Los Angeles. Thanks!
Hey everyone! I am part of the team with the Palm Springs Air Museum going to the National Championship Air Races in Reno in September. We will be racing two significant and historic aircraft.
First is our P-63 Kingcobra right here in my photo. “Pretty Polly” will be the first Kingcobra to race at Reno in decades! Alongside will be our iconic Red Tail P-51 Mustang “Bunny” dedicated to the famed Tuskegee Airmen of World War II.
We are on our way but still need you to join our Red Tails Kingcobra Race Team. There are great perks and rewards from our team Shirts to actually flying. Our sponsorship levels gives you significant signage too in front of a huge audience in the most prestigious Air Race of the fastest motorsport in the world!
Just too fun! Instant photographs from my shoot with Shauna Toerner. Actually shot about fifty. Love the look and so simple.
And as for Shauna Toerner in front of the camera…. Just Wow! Love her and will be showing more from our shoot soon.
Including more of the Fujifilm Instax instant photos, the photos from the shoot itself on Hasselblad digital and Broncolor lighting. Some video too! Makeup and Hair Styling by the ever impressive Natalie Lyle. Thanks!
Behind the scenes with Kerstin Schulze. An amazing athlete and actress currently starring in a YouTube produced original series. Featured in many major brand television commercials. A day spent creating publicity photos, and photos and videos and for an upcoming behind the scenes workout series. Watch for it, Kerstin is an inspirational and extraordinary woman!

Yes I get to shoot fun video like this and fly onboard. Watch the video! I really enjoy being the Social Media Manager for the Palm Springs Air Museum and it gives me the opportunity to share some amazing history. The Palm Springs Air Museum, One Of The Best Air Museums In The World – CNN.
July 28, 1935 eighty three years ago, the B-17 Flying Fortress took it’s first flight. The giant four engine bomber that played a pivotal role in World War II and became an iconic symbol of American Air Power.
You can tour the inside the B-17 Flying Fortress “Miss Angela” at the Palm Springs Air Museum. See what it was like to fly a mission from the cockpit, across the bomb bay, to the guns in the back. In one of four fully air conditioned hangars of almost 100,000 sq ft of aircraft and displays. Great fun and history!
I really enjoyed shooting this video for Palm Springs Fitness Center. Actually a little long for social media, but it really explains the good and bad about “cardio machines” for weight loss. Everybody wonders about why they can march on that treadmill for hours and hours and never lose a pound. I know this is a hot topic; very quickly it was watched by a few thousand people. Check it out…
One of the most incredible women I know, Kerstin Schulze. Accomplished fitness star and trainer, actress seen in many features and commercials. A role model for those who are bullied, feel different or left out. We will be seeing much more of Kerstin and her message of being a better you.
From our photo and video shoot just a few days ago. Make up by the Estee Lauder featured artist, Blanche LeBeau. Hair by @phatarachavis. My assistant for the day, the many talented Shauna Toerner.
Shoot notes… Hasselblad digital camera system for photographs. Video shot on Fujifilm X-Series Cameras. Lighting by Broncolor. FD Photo Studio in downtown Los Angeles. Thank You!
I often get asked, what is the hardest part of working out. The answer is always, getting to the front door of the gym in the first place. Get that accomplished and everything else will fall into place. One of my videos for Palm Springs Fitness Center.
